The Black Truffle Fair of San Miniato is the hot news in town

The beautiful region of Tuscany is known worldwide for its soft hills and warm summer colours. Among its yellow sunflowers, green cypress and red wine there is also the summery black truffle. The hunt and harvest of the Black Truffle in San Miniato starts the 1st of June. It can be found throughout the warm months and sometimes in autumn too. Despite its low economical value – when compared with the precious white truffle – its taste and smell is highly appreciated and suits well together with many dishes.

The main characteristic of the Black Truffle is its skin: is the peel of the truffle which is particularly hard and warty. The smell is mushroomy like porcini and freshly earthy. Unlike the winter White Truffle of San Miniato, the Summer Truffle can also be served cooked as well as into flake.

This year San Miniato will host on the 24th June an evening Local Market that will present you all seasonal agricultural product, neat and processed Black Truffle products, and a grand visual presentation of 2023 summer events. San Miniato has an important theatrical tradition that will stage from June to August in all squares and corners of San Miniato historical city center. If we think about it, the patron Saint of the city San Genesio, was himself a musician and actor. Chance, coincidence or vocation? The last war destroyed the civic theater in 1944, but since 1947 the theater has returned to life in San Miniato in a calendar of open-air events.
